Biography

Seohee Kim, a South Korean soprano, has established herself on the international stage with a rare combination of virtuosity, musical sensitivity, and a deep passion for the baroque, Mozartian, and sacred repertoire. From an early age, Seohee demonstrated exceptional talent in both singing and piano, earning numerous prestigious awards in these disciplines. However, it was her exposure to Handel’s “Lascia ch’io pianga” that revealed her true calling: to become an interpreter of baroque music.

She began her studies at the National Seoul University, where she excelled and graduated at the top of her class. A scholarship led her to the Yong Kap Cho Academy, where she participated in concert tours across several major cities in South Korea. Seohee’s career took off when she won first prize at the Franz Schubert International Lied Competition in Seoul, marking the start of her professional journey. She later received the special “Voci Emergenti” prize at the Ruggero Leoncavallo competition and won first prize at the CTS International Hymn Contest TV Program in South Korea.

Her talent and ambition brought her to Europe, where she studied at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, earning a Master’s degree with honours and ranking among the top three students of her class. Throughout her time in Europe, Seohee has performed in numerous concerts in Rome and collaborated with renowned conductors.

Seohee Kim has portrayed significant roles on international stages. She has performed as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni in Spain and Lithuania with the Grammy-winning Kremerata Baltica Orchestra, conducted by Christian Frattima. She also played Aminta in Il re pastore with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra. Her early experience with baroque music came at the Banchetto Musicale Festival in Vilnius, where she performed as the third witch and spirit in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Additionally, she has appeared with the Orchestra RomaTre in works such as Mozart’s Requiem and Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust.

Seohee has also taken part in a charity concert at the Sala Baldini in Rome, conducted by the renowned maestro Marco Boemi.

As Handel once said, “Learn what there is to learn, then choose your own path.” Seohee continues to pursue her path with unwavering determination, dedicating herself to exploring baroque and sacred music. Inspired by mentors such as Jérôme Corréas and Stéphane Fuget, she refines her art and seeks to convey the timeless grace and beauty of this repertoire to audiences worldwide.

Currently based between Paris and Rome, Seohee continues to expand her artistic horizons while asserting her identity as a soprano specialized in baroque music. Her future projects include international collaborations and productions aimed at bringing the richness of baroque music to contemporary listeners.
